| Creating Success Together Since 1983 |
|
Each of Catacel's key people has a background of business success over the years. In 1983, an association began that would create even more success for the Catacel team, and would forever change how the world would look at catalytic converters.
|
At that time, Cornelison was successfully operating Condar Co., a business that he started that developed and manufactured combustion instrumentation. He became interested in catalytic converters, and formed an association to explore that technology with Retallick, who had experience with catalysts. After experimenting with catalysts on metal foil supports, they quickly realized that they had a technology that would find use in many applications. Cornelison created Camet Co. in 1986 to take advantage of these new applications. Condar Co. was soon sold (and continues to make money today for it's current owners) so that Cornelison could devote his efforts to the new venture.
Shortly thereafter Whittenberger (as Engineering Manager) and Furber (as legal counsel and business advisor) came on the scene. Camet quickly gained a large market share of CO catalysts for gas turbine power plants (shown right), and also successfully manufactured and sold a wide variety of specialty catalysts for VOC, rich-burn engine, restaurant, and automotive aftermarket applications. One important reason for Camet's success was the development of a contiunous web process line for manufacturing uniformly coated catalyst coated foil at low cost.

Camet made important strides in the automotive emission control field in the early 1990s by inventing and advancing the technology of electrically heated catalysts, or EHCs. This development demonstrated that low automotive emissions could be achieved, and gave the California Air Resouces Board leverage to create the ULEV automotive emission standard.
The Camet technology and operation was sold in 1993 and later acquired by Englehard Corp. in 1997. The business continues to generate significant revenues for Engelhard. Whittenberger remained with the operation until early 2000 as site manager.

The principals reunited in 2001 to form Catacel, primarily to address the gas turbine combustion market. Since Catacel was created, great strides have been made in that area. Catacel has also expanded their technology to include new developments in the fuel reforming and heat exchanger fields.
The following is a list of issued U.S. Patents invented by one or more of the Catacel principals over the years. Click on the number to view the archive at the U.S. Patent Office.
