Efficiency and Emissions Improvement of Engines – Partnerships

Catacel has been partnering with the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) since early 2007 to support GTI’s research, development and commercialization of Thermo Chemical Recuperation (TCR) technology for reciprocating internal combustion engines. This exciting technology recycles energy from the exhaust heat to partially reform and thereby upgrade the fuel. This results in higher engine efficiency and enables lower NOx emissions.

Catacel has been providing heat-exchanging catalytic elements and technical support for the project. GTI has performed significant laboratory-scale and limited pilot-scale testing and expects to deliver a system for testing on a 19-liter natural gas engine in mid-2009. GTI's efforts have been supported by the California Energy Commission, natural gas companies including SoCalGas and National Fuel and industrial partners Cummins and Dresser-Rand.
